Unexpressed feelings are a major reason why people experience difficulties and distress in their lives. Nothing is more rewarding than helping a client navigate through their personal and difficult issues. I work collaboratively with clients to help them find a way to increase their self-awareness, develop ways of relating to others and learn new behaviors to help them reach their personal goals.

Individual  Counseling

With the world ever changing and moving at increased speeds, we can often feel like we are getting pulled in many directions. This can be stressful for teens and adults alike. Although life can be pretty amazing at times, it can also be pretty stressful. Individual counseling can be an effective approach for making healthier choices and positive life changes or simply navigating rough patches.

Family Counseling

It’s common knowledge the teen years can be hard on the parent/child relationship. Insecurities, social expectations, peer groups and emotional health are just a few of the plethora of issues teens deal with on a daily basis. Let me help break down these barriers and create a meaningful relationship between you and your child.

Group Therapy

Groups brings together individuals for the safe exchange of differing viewpoints.  It alleviates the feeling of being alone and creates supportive bonds.  Each group is scheduled as the needed.

  • Teen Girls Support Group (Middle and HS Separated)
  • DBT Skills Group

I am invested in using the training and learning I have developed through study and experience to help you and your family. I will both accept you where you currently are, as well as help you acknowledge that change needs to take place. Change is needed in order for you to become more functional in day-to-day life.

What is DBT or Dialectical Behavior Therapy?  DBT is considered the gold standard in therapy for individuals who have complex and severe disorders that are difficult to treat. It has also been found to be effective (by at least one randomized controlled trial) for a variety of mental health conditions such as ADHD, PTSD, Depression, Bipolar, Suicidal ideations and self-harming individuals to name a few.

It has four primary modes of treatment delivery; Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Skills. Each one of these modules will give you specific skill-sets to use when your current behaviors are not conducive or helpful to your mental health such as self-harm, substance abuse, and suicidal ideation.  DBT will help you get unstuck from extreme thinking patterns, balance acceptance, and change, and assesses your situation and target behaviors that are keeping you from reaching your goals.

Jennifer has been trained to incorporate DBT in her therapy practices by Approved Trainers from Behavioral Tech, the training company founded by the founder of DBT, Marsha Linehan.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma (credit EMDRIA), to help clients cope and heal from experiences that have caused emotional trauma, and to treat other mood and anxiety disorders including depression, phobias, and panic disorders.

EMDR has eight phases of treatment that focus on the past, present, and future. Many clients report relief after the first session of EMDR although there is great variability in the client’s responses. EMDR is a complex technique and can only be performed by trained professionals.
